ROXBURY house
Built in the 50’s in Roxbury, Connecticut, this is a weekend house for our client and his two boys who live in New York City. After having completed his New York apartment, our client asked if we could design the interiors for the main house and the pool house on the property. The furnishings for the main house are a temporary measure as our client plans to build a new house further down the property where there are amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The pool house, pool and tennis courts are the first phase of the new construction designed by the Lebanese architect, Nasser Nakib. We were asked to design the interiors.
The site for the pool house was inspirational. With views of the mountains, the facade of the house is built out of stone and sits under a magnificent pine tree. Large interior ceiling beams were imported from a farmhouse in Europe. Wide plank oak floors and stone fireplace further enhance the barn like aesthetic. Large glass sliding doors open out onto a stone terrace with a seating and dining area as well as an outdoor kitchen and bar. The aesthetic direction was “country elegant” but the reality was that the pool house was primarily going to be used as a hangout for my clients’ teenage sons and all their friends. We selected an indoor outdoor carpet that looks like Sisal. The upholstered furniture from Lepere is framed in stainless steel with acrylic cord webbing, similar to the antique tennis rackets mounted on the walls. Low modular stools were selected for additional flexible seating. Custom seat and back cushions for a large stone bench were designed out of Sunbrella fabric to create super comfortable lounge area on the terrace and the pool furniture, also from Lepere was selected for its’ hi tech fabrics and functionality.
